Patch Magic Symphony - Gastein Stream
High Swallow Courtyard (Schwalbenhof) - bridge train station Hofgastein
Find the brook trout and char in this area with ease. You are immediately in your element and your fly rod is at home here. The fighting trout pull the backing line from the roll and be surprised what this water does with you.
Yes, you want more – attach a dry or wet fly to your leader and they will fly…
Mango Jerry has to say:
The Patch, with more then 1 km begins approx. at the Swallows courtyard up to about 10 m in front of the Lagerhaus (general handyman’s store) bridge. The top waters have a charm, with only partial bank vegetation and for fly fishers the casting is possible from the banks. At the back there is enough space to cast your rod. It is fun to improve your own casting technique and to drill the fish again and again. The trout by the foot-path are not so shy as they are accustomed to movement.
The movement cased by the power station is a wonderful challenge. In the case of low-water (several times a day), the river can be walked well with chest waders. The hotspots are easily accessible on the rocks on the right side down stream from the banks, even at higher water levels. Caution is always necessary! The roll cast is used here more and more. Fishing with dry, wet fly partly with complained nymph and Streamer depending on the water levels A landing net is unavoidable because a number of times large trout will shoot from the water. Use good fishing line as the strong trout like to drag downstream after being hooked. Darker bait is often used.
Tip: place the streamer, when the water level is higher, in the middle & wait a moment before you reel in. Tight Lines!
